Founded the village of Verndale in 1877.

Helen Vernette Smith - 1876 -1889
Grandaughter of Judge L.W. Smith, Verndale was named in her honor, combining "Vern" from her name and "dale" from the beautiful location of the village.

Edward M. Britts home, Verndale, MN
Mr. & Mrs. Britts and daughter appear in front of their fine family home in Verndale. This home was constructed in 1886 by TC Myers for Moses Stewart, Jr.

The Merchants Hotel
Constructed in the late 1870s, this hotel was originally called the Bolton House. It was located on the north side of the railroad tracks, facing Mason Ave.
